Julieta ! The last feature from the iconic Spanish directors Pedro Almadovar is a story about guilt and how people deal with their problems. It is one of his female centered storytelling, witch has gave him his reputation.
In short to wrap it up,Julieta lives in Madrid with her daughter Antia. They both suffer in silence over the loss of Xoan, Antia’s father and Julieta’s husband. But at times grief doesn’t bring people closer, it drives them apart.
When Antia turns eighteen she abandons her mother, without a word of explanation.
Julieta looks for her in every possible way, but all she discovers is how little she knows of her daughter. Not always grief brings people together sometime it separates them apart and above all when you do not speak about it. Julieta barely shares with her daughter any of her feelings and is or ask her about her life, her loves this sense of freedom that she gives to her daughter is in the limit of not caring and gets sucked in to her guilt. Antia feeling alone leaves her, goes on and finds guidance from religion rehab and build her own live away. there is a kind of silence in all the characters of not sharing their and not discussing with each other. Also by the end of the movie when Julieta goes to meet Antia she says that she is not going to be angry at her or reproach her of anything, she is just going to be there for her. But this id of attitude to just be there and talk about nothing and share nothing was the cause of everything from the start. I loved the actresses and it was an astonishing photography in the movie. Some people did not expect this kind of tranquility that Almadovar chose to treat this drama but it was fully justified because life with its tragedy and drama goes through the characters and they do nothing about that!
I have the pleasure to share with you exclusive videos of the Julieta cast after the screening in Cannes Film Festival 2016 !
